Tutoring Positions With The Simon Family Foundation

The Simon Charitable Foundation is looking to contract tutors to work with our high school Simon Scholars during the 2011-2012 school year.

  • We are seeking tutors in a variety of subjects, including: Math (Algebra I and II, Pre-Calc, Calc), Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English and History.
  • Tutoring is with individuals or small groups and takes place on the UNM’s campus on Saturday mornings (make-up sessions may take place at different times throughout the week depending on availability).
  • Participants are all juniors and seniors in high school.
  • Each tutoring session is two hours (Session 1 - 9:00-11:00 a.m. / Session 2 - 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.) Tutors may be hired to work one or two sessions/week.
  • The rate of pay is $15 per hour.
  • Tutoring experience is preferred but not required.
  • Tutors must have earned at least a B in the subject or in a comparable course at UNM (no first year students).
  • Applicants who are comfortable tutoring more than one subject are given preference (please specify the level of Math that you are comfortable tutoring even if your primary interest is in Science or Humanities.)
  • Tutors are expected to sign a contract for the entire academic year.
  • Tutoring will begin in mid September and does not occur over the Winter, Spring or Summer Break.

Los Alamos National Laboratory's Cyber Systems and Technology Group (D-1) is seeking students at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoc levels for internships/appointments. D-1 is a newly formed organization at Los Alamos specifically tasked with conducting cutting-edge cyber security, systems, and network R&D. Current research areas include:

  • Vulnerability analysis and discovery
  • Network security
  • Distributed command and control
  • Traffic analysis, privacy, and anonymity
  • Sensor networking
  • Malware research
  • OS security
  • Mobile device/smartphone security and development

Selected applicants will work in a dynamic and collaborative R&D environment with access to a large pool of world-class researchers, advanced technology, and a variety of different projects. Students will be in a position to help to define their work scope and even propose their own projects. We strive to provide opportunities that provide meaningful real-world work experiences while incorporating education, training, and the opportunity to publish.

Graduate-level applicants will be expected to have a proven record of cyber research experience and publications. Undergraduate students will be expected to have relevant course experience and strong familiarity with security, networking, or systems. All selected applicants will be expected to be proficient at programming, technical writing, and giving presentations. Applicants must be capable of obtaining a security clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.

Graduate and undergraduate internships are of flexible duration and offer competitive salaries and travel compensation. Postdoc positions are two-year appointments with possible one year extensions. All start dates are negotiable.
