Geospatial Data for Visualizing Driving Directions and Image Enhancement
by

Dr. Bill Chen
Microsoft Researcher
Microsoft Virtual Earth

at 9:30 am on September 29, 2009 at Dean Smith Hall 134

Abstract

In this talk I'll explore the possibilities of utilizing geospatial data for visualizing driving directions and image enhancement. Publically available geospatial data is becoming more common as companies such as Google and Microsoft race to digitize the world. Such data has potential to enhance the way we interact the world, to improve existing algorithms, and to introduce new methods of interaction. I'll discuss two such projects: 1) a novel way to previsualize driving directions to aid navigation to a new destination and 2) image enhancement of georegistered photos.

Speaker Introduction

Billy Chen is a researcher at Microsoft, in the Virtual Earth group. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2006
and his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley in 2001. His interests include image-based rendering, human-computer interaction, and computer vision. He has published 11 papers in computer graphics and user interface conferences, shipped features in 3 Microsoft products, and has filed over 20 patents.
