FAQ: India

Q. What are my chances of getting selected for the EYES program?
A. Last year there were about 60 applicants and five of them were selected for the program. We expect a similar success rate this year.

Q. What visa will I get for the program?
A. You will be issued an I-20 that will enable you to obtain an F-1 Visa. The F-1 visa does not come with any home residency requirement (that accompanies a J-1 visa). This will make it easier to apply for graduate school in the following year.

Q. Will I be paid money for my airfare?
A. The air tickets would have to be purchased by you. The extra savings from the stipend ($2700) can be used to offset your air fare.

Q. Will I have health insurance?
A. You will be covered for your health insurance during your stay by the program. Additional dental, vision or extra insurance will be your responsibility.

Q. Will there be any social events?
A. We will have a fair amount of social events. Last year, the students were taken to an Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game (closest that you can come to watching cricket... :) ).

Q. Who will arrange for my stay?
A. The Indian Students Association at UNM will arrange for a pick-up from the airport. They will also get you in touch with a student to obtain an apartment on sublease during your stay here.
