Testimonials 2005

"I am Vaibhav Tripathi, Final Year Undergraduate at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. I did my summer internship at Centre for High Technology Materials (CHTM), University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in the field of Photonic Crystals under the guidance of Dr. Sanjay Krishna. This internship gave me ample opportunities to learn new stuff. It polished my engineering skills and provided a competitive environment to work. Excellent labs with world class facilities are the highlights of CHTM. Apart from work I had lot of fun as well. Trips to Taos, Santa Fe and hiking in the near by mountain range are still fresh in my memory.

"And if anybody is considering GRADUATE school after BTech, this is a place to come for internships."

"EYES is indeed an appropriate name for the Expand Your Engineering Skills summer internship program- this 8 week program opened my eyes to the world of academic research and to life as a graduate student in the United States. What I brought home with me was a sense of achievement and a feeling of respect for scientific research.

"I remember feeling slightly befuddled when I stepped off the airplane in Albuquerque. I had gone nearly twenty four hours without sleep and the lights of the sprawling city dazzled me. The ISA took complete charge of us- from finding rooms for the interns, receiving each of us at the airport, to taking us around and telling us horror stories about the travails of graduate life.

"Our orientation the first day, set the pace for the rest of the program. We met the entire EYES group- students, faculty advisors and campus buddies. I worked under the guidance of Professor Thomas Caudell, at the AHPCC, in the Visualization Lab. My project involved me with the Neuroscience Department in developing an adjacency matrix representation of the mammalian brain- with a focus on the rat and human brains. I enjoyed the interdisciplinary nature of my work which allowed me interaction with faculty and researchers in other departments. But most of all, I enjoyed my interaction with members of the VisLab (as it was affectionately known)- be it discussing their work, my work, previous work, software, unix,or just life in our respective home countries.

"I cherish memories of cheering for the Albuquerque Isotopes, playing tennis and going for hikes on the Sandia crest. The artist in me enjoyed the trip to Taos and a visit to the annual New Mexico State Arts and Crafts Fair. The many new friends I made on this trip, the research experience, and the many lessons I learnt made this one of the best summers of my college life."

"Hi, I am Md Saifur Rahman, senior undergraduate student at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. EYES 2005 summer internship program gave me an opportunity to work with world leading research faculties in a world class research environment. I was interested in research beforehand but EYES boosted my interest in research.

"I worked in the field of Non-uniformity correction in Focal Plane Array sensors for Infrared Imaging under the guidance of Professor Majeed M Hayat and Jorge E. Pezoa. I am thankful to Professor Majeed M Hayat and Jorge E Pezoa for their guidance and supervision.

"Apart from the work, we had a lot of fun. Albuquerque is a nice place. It has a nice climate, very much like India. There are many visiting places nearby. We visited Santa Fe and Taos. It was all fun. The memories are still fresh in my mind.

"I strongly suggest to opt UNM as Graduate school."
