Education

Professor Pollard attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, for both bachelor's and master's degree. These degrees were awarded within the Electrical Engineering Department, (now the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department), the BSEE Degree in 1971, and the MSEE degree in 1977.

Professor Pollard received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois.

Experience

Dr. Pollard's engineering work experience began with the Electro-Dynamics Laboratory (EDL) at Utah State University, which is now known as the Space Dynamics Laboratory. His responsibilities progressed with his education at USU, until he completed the work for his master's degree by building a real-time Fourier Transform system. After working for EDL, Dr. Pollard joined the staff of the Systems Group of Reticon, (now EG&G Reticon) in the fall of 1973 as a development engineer. His activities centered in designing non-contact inspection and measurement systems that utilized Reticon photo-diode arrays at the focal plane of a camera system, combined with special purpose hardware to complete the system.

In the fall of 1975, Dr. Pollard joined the technical staff of Lockheed Missiles and Space Co (now Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space), where he continued to specialize in digital electronics and computer systems. He designed special purpose hardware which teamed with general purpose computers to perform analyses according to defense related algorithms. Dr. Pollard left Lockheed in 1980 to continue his education at the University of Illinois. While in graduate school at UIUC, he was the recipient of a research fellowship from the Coordinated Science Laboratory . His research area dealt with fault tolerant protocols for bus communications.

Upon completing graduate school in 1983, Dr. Pollard joined the ECE department at the University of New Mexico, where his interests continue to follow digital design, computer architecture, parallel processing, digital signal processing, and related fields. Along with his other duties at UNM, Dr. Pollard has been involved in the Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium.
