Ramiro Jordán is the recipient of the School of Engineering’s 2007 Harrison Service Award, awarded for his contributions to and impact on engineering education, innovation and community service. Among the several international recognitions he has received is the Order of Rio Branco, in the rank of Officer, one of Brazil’s highest honors recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to the promotion of Brazil’s international relations. In 2003 he received the iNEER-ICEE 2003 Achievement Award for Innovations and Accomplishments in Multilingual ICT Infrastructure in Engineering Education. In 2004 he received the Professional Progress Award, recognizing significant success and accomplishments, given by Kansas State University.
Ramiro Jordán’s research focuses on multidimensional signal processing, wired and wireless communications, embedded systems, and entrepreneurship. He serves on many advisory boards of high-tech companies throughout the Ibero-American region.
In 1990, Dr. Jordán founded the Ibero-American Science and Technology in Education Consortium (ISTEC), an international alliance of industry, academia, government agencies, multilateral organizations, and civil society focused on education, science, technology and entrepreneurship in the Americas and Iberian Peninsula. ISTEC’s objective is to create best-in-class alliances among participants.
He is actively involved in the International Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. He is a founding member of the Engineering for the Americas (EftA) Initiative, which has become a priority of all heads of state of the Latin and Caribbean Region to enhance the engineering profession for the generation of wealth. Currently he is involved in the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies, which has similar goals to EftA but on a global scale. He has been adviser to several Latin American and Caribbean ambassadors to the United Nations in the areas of science, technology and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Jordán serves as an executive officer of Gridline Communications Holdings, Inc., a strategic partner of ISTEC that is headquartered at UNM’s Science and Technology Park. Gridline’s goal is to provide broadband access, Web services and applications to remote areas of the world.
