The Qualifying Exam
The Fall 2009 Qualifying exam will be offered on
*Friday, August 21*, 2009. If you are planning on
taking the exam, please hand in the Qualifying
Exam Advisement Sheet signed
by your adviser to the graduate office
by *Monday, July 20*, 2009
Please note that we have some revision about
passing/failing rules this time. You need to read
them carefully.
For your minor core course, you can sign up more
than one subject, but must select a single subject
at the exam time. In other words, you are not
allowed to answer questions from different subjects.
We will allow an oral exam at a PhD student's 1st
or 2nd attempt. Whether such an oral exam will be
given will be determined by the faculty group.
The exit exam of MS plan II (non-thesis option)
has been modified since the fall of 2008. Students
entering the program before 2008 may choose the
grandfather clause and use the Qualifying exam as
their exit exams, but must sign up their exams
during the 2009 year (so this will be the last exam). (Starting in year 2010,
Qualifying exam will be designated to Ph.D.
students only.)
As a reminder, you MUST take the exam within
one year from your enrolling as a Ph.D. student,
and if you are planning to graduate
under the non-thesis option with a MS degree.
If you have questions, please stop by the Office to check.
