Doctoral Student Madrid Earns AAUW Fellowship

ECE Ph.D. student Monica Madrid has just been awarded an AAUW Selected Professions Fellowship for about $9,000. Ms Madrid is conducting research under the guidance of her faculty advisor, Professor Jamesina Simpson.

The American Association of University Women awards Selected Professions Fellowships to women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study during the fellowship year in designated degree programs where women's participation traditionally has been low. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Ms Madrid is one of 32 recipients of this fellowship, and they represent institutions ranging from Stanford, Yale and U.C. Berkeley to Harvard, Duke, Cornell and Georgia Tech.

The AAUW, based in Washington, D.C., advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.
