CompE Senior to Join NSF Houston Summer Research

Miguel Gallegos, a senior in computer engineering, has been selected to participate in an NSF-funded summer research internship (REU) at the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston (UH).

This program invites about 10 qualified undergraduate seniors every year to participate in advanced research with UH faculty in areas relating to wireless sensor networks and network security.

The selection process was competitive this year, and Miguel was picked from a pool of more than 40 applicants.

"NSF REU programs attract talented students from all over the country," said ECE Associate Professor Nasir Ghani, Miguel's faculty mentor and instructor, "and they provide a great means for undergraduates to learn basic research skills and also gain experience at other academic institutions.

"They also provide an excellent vehicle for our talented UNM undergraduates to showcase their skills on a broader national level. Miguel is a very qualified candidate, and I fully expect him to have a very rewarding research experience at UH."
