Home

This site is designed to give students in the ECE 238 course a quick and easy introduction to VHDL and programmable logic tools (Xilinx) as well as a place to turn for quick reference. All information for laboratory sessions (Fall 2009) will also be provided in this site.

External Users

To users that are not UNM students; all the material in this site is provided in AS IT IS basis and can be freely used. Please send us your feedback. We'll be also happy to reference similar material from other universities in this site. Our labs are specifically written for Xilinx ISE 9.2 tools. Older versions are available (ISE 5.2, Foundations labs, etc) under "Past Versions" link. Please contact us if you have any question on the software.

To ECE238 students

All the computers in the ECE 238 lab have Xilinx ISE Version 9.2 loaded. This lab is located in room 216. You do not need a personal password or login from the EECE department to use these machines since you will be provided one for your class at the start of the semester. Do not store your projects on the hard drives as anyone who wants access to these drives can obtain it. The project files are large and you will want to save them for future reference in other Computer Engineering courses. This means that you will need to have a zip disk, an EasyDisk or to connect to you ECE account to store your projects on. There are zip drives and USB ports on every computer.

Accounts and Software use

For most of you (UNM students), it will be a good idea to obtain a departmental account. If you are going into Computer or Electrical Engineering, you will need one of these accounts eventually so you might as well get it done now. Note that most of the software is installed in the labs at EECE (Room 211 for instance). If you don't finish a lab for any reason, you can always finish it at those labs rooms or talk to your TA to make a special appointment for you.

Contact People and Acknowledgments

This website was made by Craig Kief and Alonzo Vera under the supervision of prof. Marios Pattichis. Most of the material have been updated by the T. A. Jorge Crichigno, and by UNM students such as Kayla Chambers, Terri Brown, James Hansen, D. J. Ortley, Luke Nihle, Jeremy Wright and Mathew Dubuque. The labs were build thanks to Xilinx University Program colaboration which donated all the software and most of the hardware available in the lab. XUP also provided assistence to develop the lab materials used since the year 2000.
