Welcome to my homepage. I am one of the founders of the Advanced Graphics Lab (AGL) which is dedicated to research in computer graphics, imaging, visualization, and computer vision. You can learn more about our lab by checking out our webpage here. I recently graduated with a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Graphics Lab at Stanford University, where my adviser was Pat Hanrahan.

Mini biography

Pradeep Sen is an Assistant Professor in the Advanced Graphics Lab in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico, with a joint appointment in Computer Science. He was born in northern Mexico to a Mexican mother and an Indian father (hence his name) and grew up in Mexico City with Spanish as his native language. In the late 1980's, his family moved to South Bend, Indiana where he attended Clay High School and was Valedictorian of the class of 1992. He attended Purdue University from 1992 - 1996, where he graduated with a B.S. in Computer and Electrical Engineering, magna cum laude (completing 180 units of coursework out of 131 required). He then attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California where he received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering in the area of electron-beam lithography, publishing two journal papers. After two years of working at a profitable startup company which he cofounded, he joined the Stanford Graphics Lab in the Fall of 2000 where he did research on real-time rendering and computational photography, publishing two first-author SIGGRAPH papers and winning two best paper awards at the Graphics Hardware conference. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in June 2006, advised by Dr. Pat Hanrahan.

Dr. Sen has been with the University of New Mexico since the Fall of 2006, where he founded the Advanced Graphics Lab, a laboratory dedicated to research in computer graphics, imaging, and computer vision. His interests in computer graphics include algorithms for image synthesis, computational image processing, and computational photography, and he is an author of almost 30 technical publications. Dr. Sen has been awarded more than $1.7 million in research funding, including an NSF CAREER award in 2009. He has also received the Lawton-Ellis Award by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNM. Dr. Sen has also started a successful educational program at UNM; the videogame development program he founded and currently leads is now ranked in the top 10 undergraduate programs in videogame design, according to the Princeton Review. As a Mexican American, he is also passionate about outreach activities and has an active mentoring program for underprivileged students at the Advanced Graphics Lab.

Graduate student opportunities

I am looking for a few more PhD students who are interested in research in computer graphics, image processing, and computer vision. Students should be good at mathematics and programming. Please contact me if you are interested. Applications for our graduate program here at UNM can be found here.

Research interests

In general, my research interests are in the area of rendering and image synthesis. I study novel rendering algorithms to accelerate global illumination, as well as image-based techniques for capturing light transport. I am also interested in real-time rendering and graphics hardware.

Students

I currently work with a great group of graduate students:

There are also some alumni from my group that are now working at some cool places: If you want to work in this area of research, I am in the process of looking for a few more PhD students who are interested in computer graphics, computer vision and image processing. Applications can be found here.
